SCENE 64
A final pan of the scene shows the ruins of the church and graveyard, then a zoom in on the broken gravestone of the Civil Rights worker.
The only words which are still visible are 1964...Not forgotten. This is the director, Alan Parker reminding us of the events and atrocities that took place in Mississippi in 1964. The gravestone is slightly broken, but overall, still standing. This symbolises the fact that although the events and atrocities that happened have undoubtedly hurt the Civil Rights Movement, it has the strength to continue on and put an end to racism against Coloured people. |
